Collapsed Drain Repair in Swanage – No-Dig Trenchless Solution

If you’re facing a collapsed drain in Swanage or the surrounding Dorset area, excavation isn’t your only option. We recently helped a local holiday let owner solve an urgent drainage problem — without digging up the ground or delaying their guest arrival.

This trenchless drain repair was completed in just under two hours using a no-dig patch lining method. Here’s how it worked.

Emergency Drain Callout at a Holiday Let

We were called to a property in Swanage, Dorset, after the owner noticed recurring blockages. With new guests due to arrive the same day, there was no time to dig. Our emergency drainage team arrived on-site to inspect the system.

Step 1: CCTV Drain Survey

Our first step was a CCTV drain survey, which revealed a collapsed interceptor trap — an old-style u-bend where the base had completely disintegrated. Rubble and debris had fallen into the pipework, causing a serious blockage.

We thoroughly cleaned the system to prepare the damaged area for repair.

Step 2: Preparing the Patch Liner

Instead of excavation, we used a fibreglass patch liner impregnated with a two-part epoxy resin. This was wrapped around an inflatable rubber bladder designed to hold the patch in place while it cured inside the pipe.

Step 3: Inserting and Curing the Patch

The patch and bladder were inserted directly into the collapsed area of the pipe. Once in position, we inflated the bladder to press the patch firmly against the pipe walls. After around 45 minutes, the resin had cured and bonded — creating a watertight, structural lining with no disruption above ground.

Step 4: Final Inspection and Result

We ran the camera back through the system to inspect the work. The patched area was perfectly sealed and aligned with the plastic-to-clay transition point. No excavation was needed, and the guests were able to check in on time.

From start to finish, the job took just two hours — compared to half a day or more if we’d had to dig.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a trenchless drain repair?
It’s a no-dig method that fixes drains from the inside using a resin-soaked patch. It avoids excavation and is ideal for collapsed or cracked pipes.

How long does a patch repair last?
When installed correctly, trenchless patch repairs can last for decades and are considered a permanent solution.

How much disruption does this cause?
Very little. There’s no need to dig up driveways, gardens, or flooring. All the work is done internally using access chambers.

Is this method suitable for holiday lets or rentals?
Absolutely. It’s fast, clean, and ideal when time is tight and surface disruption must be avoided.

Do you cover other areas outside Swanage?
Yes. Maintain Drains covers Bournemouth, Poole, Weymouth, Dorchester, and the wider Dorset region.
