Domestic & Commercial Drain Clearance

Drain Relining

When your drains have been compromised, often identified through a CCTV survey, professional drainage services are essential. Two common methods for fixing challenging damage inside underground pipes are drain relining or replacement drains.

One major benefit of drain relining is its cost-effectiveness compared to pipe excavation. Additionally, it is the quickest way to fix the issue. You only need to wait for the new lining to seal to the pipes, and the damage will be repaired. The best part is that there is no destructive work involved with relining, and once the new material is in place, you won’t even know the work was carried out.

Frequently Asked Drain Relining Questions

What is Drain Relining?

The drain relining process involves the installation of a drain lining that bonds to the inside of the pipe, essentially creating a pipe within a pipe. The lining, usually made from flexible resin, goes through the pipework either using an inflated airbag to shape the lining to the internal walls, winched in, or forced into place using water pressure.

Before drains are relined, we use drain jetting to ensure the drains have a clean and even surface so the lining can fully attach to the pipe. Drain jetting involves shooting high-pressure water through the drainage system to clear the drains of any blockages or dirt which could prevent the lining from fully attaching to the pipe.

How does drain relining work?

Drain relining begins with a thorough inspection of the drain using CCTV cameras to assess the extent of the damage. Once the assessment is complete, the drain is cleaned and cleared of any debris or obstructions. A liner, usually made of epoxy resin, is impregnated onto a flexible material and inserted into the drain. The liner is then inflated, allowing it to conform to the shape of the existing pipe. Once in place, the liner is cured using hot water, steam, or UV light, creating a solid and durable pipe within the old one.

Can all types of pipe damage be repaired through drain relining?

While drain relining can repair various types of pipe damage, it may not be suitable for all situations. Drain relining is generally effective for cracks, fractures, joint displacements, and minor root intrusion. However, severely collapsed pipes or those with extensive damage may require excavation and replacement.

What types of drains can be relined?

Drain relining is suitable for a wide range of drain types, including:

  • Sewer drains
  • Stormwater drains
  • Domestic drains
  • Industrial drains
  • Commercial drains
  • Vertical stack pipes
  • Culverts and tunnels
What are the benefits of drain relining?

Drain relining offers several advantages over traditional pipe replacement methods, including cost-effectiveness, minimal disruption, time-efficiency, long-lasting solution, and improved flow capacity.
